1、动词与宾语
副词一般不插在动词和宾语之间。在英语句子里,动词和宾语一般是不分开的。
She speaks Englishwell.她英语说得很好。
I very muchlike skiing.(或: I like skiing very much.)我很喜欢滑雪。
2、副词的正常位置
副词有三个正常的位置:
句中(动词或部分动词之前)
He suddenlydrove off.他突然开车走了。
We have neverbeen searched by the customs.我们从来没有受到海关的搜查。
句末(句子之末尾)
He drove off suddenly.他突然开车走了。
Andrew arrived late.安德鲁来晚了。
句首(句子之开头)
Suddenlyhe drove off.他突然开车走了。
YesterdayI had a bad headache.昨天我头疼得厉害。
不是所有的副词都可以用于这三个位置。只有某几种副词可以用于句首。大多数副词既可用于句中,也可用于句末,但有些副词只可用于句中,或只可用于句末。用于句中的副词,其确切位置取决于动词的形式,也取决于副词本身的种类。几个副词同时用于句末时,其次序也不完全是随意安排的。
3、副词和状语短语
大部分副词既可用于句中,也可用于句末。
Do you oftencome here?你常到这里来吗?
Do you come here often?
I angrilywalked out of the roon.我气愤地从屋里走了出去。
I walked angrilyout of the room.
I walked out of the room angrily.
I don"t completelyagree.我不完全同意。
I don"t agreecompletely.
然而,“状语短语”(和副词起同样作用的词组)一般不能用于句中。试比较:

I ordered some seeds for the garden a couple of days ago. 前几天我订购了一些种子,准备种在花园里。
有几个简短而又常用的状语短语(如: at once, very often)可以用于句中。
I havevery often wondered why people read advertisements.我时常感到奇怪,人们为什么要看广告。
4、不能用于句中的副词
①表示地点的副词通常不用于句中,一般用于句末,有的也可以用于句首。
She" s sittingoutside.她正在外面坐着。
We drove northwards.我们朝北开去。
②表示确切时间的副词(这种副词确切地说明某件事情发生的时间),不用于句中。这种副词可用于句首,或用于句末。
I met her yesterday,我昨天和她见过面。(不能说:I yesterdaymet her.)
Tomorrowwe"re leaving for Belgium.明天我们要到比利时去。(不能说:*We" re tomorrow leaving…)
表示确切频率的副词(这种副词确切地说明某种事情发生的频率),一般不用于句中,而用于句末。
Milk is delivered daily.牛奶天天送。
We have meetings monthly.我们每月开会。
表示不确切的时间或频率的副词,可以用于句中。
I"ve recentlybecome interested in gardening.最近我对园艺发生了兴趣。
We oftenplay bridge on Sunday nights.我们常常在星期天晚
上打桥牌
③ 用来进行评价的副词(这种副词说明某件事情做得好坏如何),通常用于句末,而不用于句中。
You" ve organized that well.这件事你组织得很好。(不能说:*You"ve wellorganized that.)
She sings badly.她唱得不好。(不能说:*She badlysings)
但这种副词在被动语态里可以用于过去分词之前。
It" s been welldesigned。设计得很好
The wall was very badlybuilt。这堵墙砌得很糟。
④表示方式的副词(这种副词说明某件事是怎样做的),既可用于句中,也可用于句末。
He was happilyplaying with his toys.他在玩儿玩具,玩得很高兴。
He was playing with his toys happily.
但如果表示方式的副词提供的情况很重要,就一定要放在句子的末尾。试比较:
She slowlyopened the door and looked inside.她慢慢地开开门往里看了看。
The light was bad,so he droveslowly.光线不好,所以他车子开得很慢。(不能说:*…he slowly drove。)
5、不能用于句末的副词
①有些副词一般不能用于句末。“引起注意”的副词(这种副词把我们的注意力吸引到句子的某一部分),一般用于句中。
I onlylike cowboy films.我只喜欢看牛仔片
he was simply trying to apologize.她只是想道歉。
My mother was particularlyimpressed by the dancing.我母亲看了以后,对舞蹈特别喜欢。
We must alsobuy some gas cylinders.我们也得买几个汽缸。
这种副词能够使我们把注意力集中于动词,补语、直接宾语、间接宾语或另一个副词。有时同一个句子可以有不同的理解。
Louise onlyate fish on Friday.
We alsowashed the car.
第一个例子的意思可能是星期五只吃鱼,也可能是只在星期五吃鱼。第二个例子可以理解为除了擦洗汽车以外还做了别的事情;也可以理解为除了擦洗汽车以外,还对汽车做了别的事;还可以理解为除了擦洗汽车以外还擦洗了别的东西。在一般情况下,这样的句子是不难理解的,因为有上下文,而且在说话的时候还有语调和重音。
有几个“引起注意的副词,不用于句中。too, either, as well通常用于句末。
John wants a bath too.约翰也想洗澡。
Idon" t like him either.我也不喜欢他。
We" d better get some butter as well.咱们最好也弄点黄油。
only和even如果指主语,就要放在句首。
Only George could make a mistake like that.只有乔治会犯这样的错误
Even the baby realized what was going on.就连小娃娃也意识到正在发生什么事情。
②有些副词(如 probably, certainly)说明某件事情发生的可能性有多大,或者说明其真实性有多大,这种副词通常不用于句末,Probably,certainly和definitely用于句中。
They" ve probablyforgotten the time.他们很可能把时间忘了
I definitelysaw a flash of lightning.我肯定看到了一道闪电。
perhaps和 surely一般用于句首。
Perhapswe" re going to have a storm.可能要来暴风雨了。
Surelyyou don" t think she" s beautiful?你一定觉得她不漂亮吧
③表示程度的副词(如 nearly,almost,quite,hardly,scarcely)不能用于句末,一般用于句中。
I nearlystopped and asked what he wanted.我几乎要停下来问他有什么事。
You can hardlyexpect her to smile at you after what you said.你既然说了那样的话,就难以指望她会冲着你微笑了。
6、可以用于句首的副词
①时间副词大都可以用于句首。
YesterdayI got up late。昨天我起晚了。
In Januaryit rained all the time.一月份不停地下雨。
OnceI wanted to be a doctor.我一度曾想当医生。
(这种副词也可用于句末。)
②有些表示频率的副词也可用于句首。
OccasionallyI try to write poems.我偶尔也试着写几首诗。
Sometimeswe have parties in the garden.我们有时于在花园里聚会。
然而,请注意,always和never不能用于句首(除非是在祈使句里)。
I will never understand this.这是我永远无法理解的。(不能说:*Never I will…)
You always make the same mistake.你老犯同样的错误。(不能说:* Always you make…)
③有些表示地点的副词可用于句首,尤其是在描写性的文体之中。
I opened the box.Insidewas another box.我把盒子打开,里面还有一个盒子。
here, there以及(文学作品中)其它表示方向的副词,也可以用于句首。
Herecomes your bus.你的车来了。
Theregoes Mrs Parsons.帕森斯太太走了。
Downcame the rain.大雨下起来了。
④有些方式副词可用于句首。
Slowlywe approached the top.我们慢慢地向山顶爬去。
Gentlyshe examined the child"s leg.她轻轻地检查了孩子的腿。
⑤“话语标志”(这种副词可以表明我们对自己正在说的话所采取的态度,也可以把正在说的话与前面的话联系起来)往往用于句首。
Frankly,I think she" s lying.坦白地说,我认为她在扯谎。
Actually,you" re mistaken.实际上,你误会了。
