你能把英语foot the bill(买单)翻译成英语吗?
1) 把英语学成英语,把英语翻译成英语。这才是我们学习英语需要最终练成的“真功夫”。
只有把英语学成英语,我们才有机会把我们学过的英语“用”起来,做到“融会贯通”。
只是我们大多数人始终都是习惯把英语学成中文,或者翻译成中文来“学”的,于是,他们永远都是在“学英语”,却不在“用英语”。
所以,读到英语:You paid for dinner last time. So,let me foot the bill for lunch today时,他们就会“说中文”了:今天的中餐我买单/付钱/结账。
这就是“只学英语,不用英语”的表现,它彻底背离了我们“学英语就是要用”的基本原则。
2) 我们应该从现在起训练自己把英语学成英语,让我们学过的英语用起来的英语能力:
读到英语You paid for dinner last time. Let me foot the bill for lunch today时,我们要能“说”或“用上”下面的英语:
1. Okay.I got you.To foot the bill is an English idiom.
2. When you say:You paid for dinner last time. Let me foot the bill for lunch today, you mean:You paid for dinner last time. Let me pay the bill for lunch today.
3. So,the English idiom To foot the bill means To pay for something,or to pay a bill forsomething, such as a meal
5. When you say:I"ll foot the bill,yo can also say:It"s my treat. It"s on me.I"ll pay the bill.I"ll cover the cost of something.
6.If you foot the bill for something, like a meal, youpay for it.
实际上,所有这些英语表达都可以反过来互为解释,作为口语训练的内容。
For example, when you pay the bill,or pay for it,you can also say:Let me foot the bill.
只有这样的用英语学英语的训练才是有效训练。
下面,你把出现foot the bill的地方“说”成英语,就当是英语口语训练(不要翻译成中文!):
1.Police will have to foot the bill for the damage to both cars.
2. I hope your company is footing the bill for all of this air travel.
3. My boss took me out for lunch and the company footed the bill.
4.The bride"s father had to foot the bill for the wedding.
5.Why should men have to foot the bill on a date every time?
