MARTIN: Where are you going to spend your holidays this year, Gary?
[马丁：加里，今年你们打算去哪里度假？ ]
GARY: We may go abroad. I"m not sure. My wife wants go to Egypt. I"d like to there, too. We can"t make up our minds.
[加里：我们可能到国外去，但我不敢肯定。我妻子想到埃及去，我也想去那儿。我们还拿不定主意。 ]
MARTIN: Will you travel by sea or air?
[马丁：你们乘船去，还是乘飞机去？ ]
GARY: We may travel by sea.
[加里：我们可能乘船去。 ]
MARTIN: It"s cheaper, isn"t it?
[马丁：这更便宜些，是吗？ ]
GARY: It may be cheaper. but it takes a long time.
[加里：可能是便宜些，但花的时间长。 ]
MARTIN: I"m sure you"ll enjoy yourselves.

GART: Don"t be so sure. We might not go anywhere. My wife always worries too much. Who"s going to look after the dog? Who"s going to look after the house? Who"s going to look after the garden? We have this problem every year. in the end, we stay at home and look after everything!

[1] We can"t make up our minds , 我们还拿不定主意。
make up one"s mind 是表示下定决心的一种固定用法。make up one"s mind(s) to do sth. 决心做......，打定主意......。
eg：We have made up our minds to go there by plane.
我们已经决定坐飞机去。
[2] Will you travel by sea or by air?你们乘船去，还是乘飞机去？
这是一个选择疑问句。 by sea表示“乘船”= by ship 。 by air表示“乘飞机”= by plane 。(by + 交通工具，“乘......”）
[3] take a long time, 花很长时间。
take a long time to do sth. 某人花了......（时间）做......
eg：I take a long time to walk to school because it is a long way.
我用了很长时间走到学校，因为路很远。
it takes sb. some time to do sth. 做某事花了某人多少时间，it 在句中作形式主语，真正的主语是后面的不定式短语。
eg：How long will it take you to do your homework every day?
每天做作业要花你多长时间？

五 Grammar in use & 语法
情态助动词may表示可能性
may或might都表示“可能”、“也许”。通常既可以用may，也可以用might，不过might所表示的可能性要比may小，且当情况是虚拟的时只能用might而不能用may。
（1）may 表示现在或将来的可能性：may+动词原形：
eg：The bread may be fresh.
面包可能是新鲜的。
eg：He may be reading.
他可能正在看书。
eg：I may go abroad.
我可能出国。
eg：They may offer me a job.
他们也许会给我提供一份工作。
（2）may 也可表示过去的可能性，过去式为：mayhave(done):
eg：He was late. He may have been busy.
他迟到了。他可能一直很忙。
eg：I went out last night, and she may have been reading.
我昨天晚上出去了，她可能一直在看书。
eg：It may have been right.
也可能是对的。
eg：Thry may have been in the garden.
他们可能那时一直在花园里。

eg: Mum always worries too much and it makes her tired.

eg: She"s worried that she might lose her job soon.

eg: Doesn"t it worry you that his health is becoming worse?

eg: Who"s going to look after the garden when we are away?

eg: Don"t worry about me----I can look after myself.
别担心——我会照顾好自己的。
